  W.F. Rawson and Parker Richards came in from Carey last Saturday; the former 
to bring his daughter to attend the academy and the latter to begin his labors 
at the head of the Mechanical Department of the Academy. They report the sad 
burial of Willard Chidester whose interment took place there last Wednesday. 
It will be remembered that young Chidester met his death in connection with a 
companion from asphyxiation some three weeks ago at Chicago. The good people 
of Carey subscribed money sufficient (some $250.00) to bring his remains home 
to his sorrowing parents and friends. He was regarded as an exceptionably 
bright and promising young man, and of good habits. He would have now been 
attending the academy had his life been spared.
  Mr. Richards gives the first satisfactory explanation of the cause of the 
death of these young men that we have heard. In the room in which the boys 
stayed at Chicago there was both gas and electricity. It is supposed that the 
boys entered the room in the dark, and attempted to turn on the electric 
light. By some chance they first turned the gas jet, and then the electric! 
When they retired they turned off the electic light with no thought of having 
liberated the fumes that were to cause their death.
  A prefound gloom cast over the entire community at the seemingly premature 
departure of this sterling young man.
