During the evening, while his companions were eating their supper, he picked up his rifle and walked off some twenty or thirty yards from camp, when those at supper heard the report of his rifle. Upon repairing to the spot, Pearsall was found with the whole top of his head blown off. It appeared on examination that he had taken his knife and cut a notch in the end of the rampod, to prevent it from slipping, and then holding his rifle with his left hand he placed the muzzel against his forhead and taking the ramrod in his right hand placed the notched end on the trigger and thus discharged the gun, hurling himself into eternity instantaneously. Pearsll was a native, we believe, of one the Eastern States, and about 35 years of age. No cause is assigned why he commited the rash act, except the fact that he had been unfortunate in his mining operations, and on that account was some what depressed in spirits. He bore the reputation of an honorable and upright man, and his untimely end is much regretted by a large circle of friends.
