A man named William Welch and his son W. G. Welch were getting out cord wood. At the time of the accident the father was below the hill spitting the logs which were sawed and rolled down by the son. Just before the fatal log was started down the hill side the son cried out to his father to get out of the way, who answered. "All right; let it come." But it would seem that the old man was paralysed with fear, as from some reason he did not get far enough out of the way and the log struck him in the head, then rolled over him crushing the left thigh, causing instant death. Deceased was a native of Missouri, aged 56, but was an old pioneer having come to California in 1850. He has several children, some living in Nevada and others in Colorado. He was buried in the city cemetery yesterday morning. We are in- debted to Mr. H. C. Clawson for the above sad particulars.
