Benedict, Esq; acting Coroner, for the Coroners verdict On the inquest held on the body of John Maurer, found dead in his cabin last week. We the undersigned, the Jurors summoned to appear, before L.O. Benedict,a justice of the peace and acting Coroner in and for Boise county, I.T., at the residence of the deceased, on the 19th day of October,A.D. 1870, to inquire into the cause of the death of John Maurer, found lying dead in a cabin situated on Alder creek, county and territory aforesaid, having been duly sworn according to law, and having made such inquisition, after inspecting the body and hearing the testimony adduced, upon our oaths, each and all, do say that we find the deceased was named John Maurer, was a native of Foglesbach, Germany, aged about forty years; that he came to his death on th 19th day of October, A.D. 1870, in this county; by a pistol shot wound in the forehead, and that the same was produced by the deceased himself, whom we found with the weapon still in his hands. All of which we duly certify by this inquisition, in writting, by us signed this 19th day of October, A.D. 1870 This is the case of suicide noticed in our last issue, wherein we gave the name as that of Thomas Lunt. The deceased was found lying upon his back on his bed with his arms lying across his breast, and the revolver in his right hand, with his thumb upon the trigger, indicating that with his right hand he had placed the muzzle of the weapon to his forehead and discharged it with his thumb. It is supposed that he used solder for loading, as one charge still remained in the cylinder, which was made up of small bits of that metal, and no balls, or means of casting them, were found. The weapon used was the new patent, navy size, Colt's revolver. He had dressed himself in his best suit for the occasion. About $60 in coin, $67 in gold dust and a silver watch were found in his possesion. Mr. Bendict, who was assisted on the inquest by John P. Braun, Justice of the Peace of centerville precinct, took possesion of the effects of deceased, and in accordance with the law deposited them with the County Treasurer, taking his receipt for the same. The naturalization papers of the deceased were also found in his cabin, from which it appears he was naturalized in Sierra county, Cal., on the 26th day of October, 1868 File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/id/boise/newspapers/johnmaur272nnw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/idfiles/ File size: 3.0 Kb
