 Fatal Accident- On last Friday evening, Sept 23d., an accident occured on 
Buena Vista Bar which resulted in the death of N.W. Bright. He had been engaged 
for some time past in drifting a piece of ground of the Buena Vista Bar 
Company, and was at work taking out pay dirt from an old abandoned tunnel which 
had not been properly timbered overhead. Several other people had warned him of 
the great danger incurred in working in the tunnel, but he seemed to think that 
it was safe and continued at work.   About 5 o'clock on the evening mentioned, 
while engaged as usual, the whole bank or mass of earth caved in on him. Mr. 
Jerry Dill, who was at work for the Buena vista Bar co., a short distance off, 
saw the bank fall and immediately gave the alarm, and with several others ran 
to the spot. They soon removed the earth and reached the body, but life was 
already extinct. Mr. Dill notified Mr. Sam Thompson, the foreman of the claim 
adjoining, and upon his arrival the body was removed to the residence of the 
deceased on Buena Vista Bar. The deceased was an old resident and Pioneer, 
having reached Boise Basin during the winter of 1862 and '63, and has been 
engaged in mining nearly ever since his arrival here. He formerly lived in 
Auburn, in the Powder river mines, and prior to that he was a resident of 
Willamette Valley, Oregon. We are not aware of what State he was a native, but 
believe he was from one of the Southern States, and that he was about 45 years 
of age. He leaves a wife and two beautiful little twin girls to mourn his 
death, with whom the whole community deeply sympathize in their sore 
affliction. The funeral took place on Sunday evening and was largely attended 
by the friends and acquaintances of the family.
