WHITE, aged 52 years. Mr. White was a native of North Carolina, born in Cabarrus county, in the year 1818. Before the discovery of gold in California, he operated quite excesively in the surface quartz mines in Mecklenberg,Cabarrus and Montgomery counties, and emigratedto California in 1850. In the spring of 1851 he left San Francisco, on board the old steamer headed for home,and waswrecked on the Mexican coast. Reaching shore he walked 40 miles through a desert without water, to a small townon the coast,where he re-embarked on board a vessel for home. In the fall of the same year he returned to California and for some time afterwards was engaged in merchandising at Belvidere Flat, in Tuolumne county. In 18?? he went to Frazer river and two years afterward ? ? Fino, and for a time was engaged in mining in that place, as also at Elk City. In the fall of ? having heard of More's discovery of Boise Basin, he came to this place with a cargo of groceries and remained here until the time of his death. Mr. White has been ill-health for several years. A man of retiring disposition, he formed few acquaintances, but was highly esteemed and respected by all who knew him. He died at the residence of his nephews, James and Ira White, who were unremitting in their attendance on the invalid during his illiness. Additional Comments: Some dates were unreadible.
