Gould, 78 Susan J. Gould, 78, of Wellpinit, Wash. passed away on August 13, 2005 in Spokane, Wash. following a long illness. Susan was born January 21, 1927 in Spokane the daughter of Isabel (Andrew) and John J. Abrahamson. She grew up on the Kalispel Indian Tribe. Susan graduated in 1946 and was the first Native American to graduate from the Cusick High School. In 1954 she married Allen L. Gould in Spokane. The two of them continued to make there home on the Kalispel Indian Tribe. Susan worked at the Cusick High School as a counselor for the Native American students as well as being as full time home maker. She loved beading, going to garage sales and the casino. Susan also loved to talk about the olden days and carrying on the Native American traditions. She was a well-respected elder of the tribe. Survivors include her son, Gary and wife Nancy of Wellpinit, Wash.; nine grandchildren, Joesph Gould, Sheena Gould, Cody Gould, Tyler Gould, Wayne Gould, Christopher Gould, Jerry Hershman, Salina Nenema, and Billy Jones; and seven great grandchildren. Susan is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Besides her parents Susan was preceded in death by her husband Allen; five children Frank Abrahamson, Melvin Abrahamson, Sharon George, Lyle Gould, and Barbara Gould; two brothers and two sisters. A Rosary and Wake was held on Aug. 17, 2005 at the Kalispel Community Center. A Funeral Mass was held on Aug. 18, 2005 also at the Kalispel Community Center. A private graveside inurnment will be held at a later date. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
