Sternhagen, 89 Nina E. Sternhagen, 89, of Blanchard, Idaho passed away Oct. 30, 2005 at her home. She was known as the oldest surviving resident of Blanchard. Nina was born March 27, 1916 in Lufk, Wyo. the daughter of Edwin and Vivian (Auer) Brott. Nina Married Rollie Phillips March 29, 1939. While the two were married Nina worked in the fields helping with all the farm work. On February 20, 1955 Rollie passed away in a logging accident. She married George Larson on June 3, 1955. George preceded her in death on June 30, 1965. Nina was a resident of Blanchard for over 50 years and on Jan. 4, 1979 she married Bill Sternhagen. Bill preceded Nina in death on February 10, 1990. She was a charter member of the Blanchard Water Board and was still serving the board until her death. Nina worked in many different jobs through out her life. Besides being an excellent farm hand, Nina also worked as a millwright and as a waitress. Nina worked at the Newport Community Hospital as a nurse's aid and she continued working as an aid for over 20 years in the Newport and Blanchard areas. Nina was known as a very independent woman who could do anything she put her mind to. She helped build the Blanchard Community Church and her own home. She loved canning and knitting. Survivors include her sister Bonnie Arledge in Montana and numerous nieces and nephews. At her request no public services will be held. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Priest River, Idaho is in charge of arrangements.
