Olson, 81 Margaret A. Olson, 81, (81) of Newport, Wash. formally of Cusick, Wash. passed away September 9, 2005 in Newport following a long illness. Margaret was born November 1, 1923 in Kootenai, Idaho the daughter of Morris A. and Pearl (Pedersen) Folstad. Margaret worked for the Cusick School District for over 10 years as a secretary. Margaret was very active in her community. She was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post # 217 in Cusick, Wash. and the Newport Eagles, she also belonged to the Royal Neighbors. Margaret loved knitting, crocheting, spending time at the river property and barbeques. Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her daughter Ree (and Ken) Kelling of Spokane; three sons Steve (and Patty) Shining of Spokane, Tom (and Sharon) Shining of Newport, and Jim (and Jeri) Shining of Spokane; one stepson Rod (and Jackie) Olson of Spokane, and a stepdaughter Diane (and Mark) Simonson of Phoenix, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren. Survivors also include a brother Morris (and Donna) Folstad Jr. of Coeur d'Alene and a brother in law Walt Meier of Newport. Besides her parents Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Wes Olson in January of 2004, her sister Helen Meier in 2003, her stepdaughter Elmira "Cookie" Emery, and her first husband Willis "Strib" Shining. Graveside Services was held on Sept. 13,at the Pines Cemetery in Sandpoint, Idaho with a Memorial Service following at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash. A celebration dinner was held at the American Legion Post # 217 in Cusick, Wash. Memorial contributions may be made in Margaret's name to the American Legion Post # 217 Auxillary. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home Newport, Wash. is in charge of arrangements.
