Haugen, 78 Donald O. Haugen, 78, of Metaline Falls, Wash. passed away Oct. 25, 2005 in Newport, Wash.. Donald was born August 27, 1927 in Carrington, ND the son of Oscar M. and Margaret E. (Kramer) Haugen. After graduating from high school Donald joined the United States Army and served from Feb. 1946 to Aug. 1947 obtaining the rank of Sergeant. On Sept. 15, 1951 he married Jean Stockburger in Kensal, ND. The two of them lived in Metaline Falls for over 50 years. Donald worked for Lehigh-Portland Cement Company for 30 years as a storekeeper. He was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and also a member of the American Legion Post 144 in Metaline Falls, Wash. Donald loved watching college basketball, football and Seattle Mariners baseball. Survivors include his two daughters Paulette Sharp of Metaline, Wash., and Barbara Ness of Spokane, Wash.; three granddaughters Amber Pichette of San Diego, Calif., and Emily Ness and Mary Ness both of Spokane, Wash. Survivors also include his brother Alfred Haugen of Tucumcari, NM.; sister in law Audrey Haugen of Kensal, ND.; numerous nieces and nephews Besides his parents Donald was preceded in death by his wife Jean in 1989; son James Haugen in 1970; sister Margaret Carlson; and two brothers Marvin Haugen and Lester Haugen. Memorial contributions may be made in Donald's name to American Legion Post #144 in Metaline Falls, Wash. A Memorial Mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 2, 2005 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Metaline Falls, Wash. Following the services a celebration of Donald's life will be held for family and friends at the American Legion Post #144 in Metaline Falls. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
