Maas Sherman G. Maas, 68, of Nordman, Idaho passed away at his home on Jan. 14, 2006 following a long battle with cancer. Sherman was born May 13, 1937 in Killdeer, N.D. the son of John H. and Alice E. (Oster) Maas. He grew up in Williston, N.D. and graduated from Williston High School in 1955. After graduating, Sherman served his country aboard the USS Antietam. He served four years and was honorably discharged from the US Navy. In 1958 he married Joan Baker and from that union three children were born. That marriage ended in a divorce and on April 12, 1969 he married Diane Fay (McNary) Brenden in Williston, North Dakota. The two of them moved to Nordman, Idaho in 1989. For over 40 years Sherman was a long haul truck driver, and most recently worked for the Forrest Service. He was a past member of the Nordman Lions Club. Sherman loved reading, woodworking, collecting guns, cooking, baking bread, four wheeling, and snowmobiling. Although he had many hobbies and enjoyed many different things Sherman's greatest love was spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his Wife Diane at the family home; two daughters Shanna Sheton and Sheila Lynn; two sons Stephan Maas and Richard Brenden; eight grandchildren. Survivors also include his four sisters Joyce Pavlish of Calif., Shirley Luhman of Wash., Renee Maas of N.D. and Kay Maas of Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Sherman was preceded in death by his sister Jackie Bean. Private family services will be held at a later date. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
