Plante, 67 Roderick J. "Rod" Plante, Jr., 67, of Newport, Wash. passed away on Jan. 18, 2006 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Rod was born Jan. 17, 1939 in Cloquet, Minn. the son of Roderick Sr. and Thelma R. (Hendrickson) Plante. He enlisted in the US Navy on Jan. 19, 1956 as a radio operator, and was honorably discharged one year later. On Feb. 8, 1964 he married the love of his life, Donna Jean Carpenter in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. The two made their home in the Tri-Cities, Wash. for 15 years before moving to Newport 20 years ago. Rod worked as an operating engineer with Central Pre-Mix in the Tri-Cities and Newport for over 25 years, retiring in 1997. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Pasco and Eagles Lodge in Deer Park. Rod loved hunting, fishing and riding motorcycle. His greatest love was spending time with his family especially his children and grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made in Rod's name to the local hospice. Survivors include his wife, Donna at the family home; son Aaron (and Sandy) Johnson of Rupert, Idaho; three daughters , Laurie (and Scott) Urquhart of Boise, Idaho, Roddie Shanley of Richland, Wash., and Christenia Coast (and Tom Schultz) of Pocatello, Idaho; 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Survivors also include two sisters, Betty McDuffee of Deer Park, Wash. and Joanne (and Lionel) LeMieux of Richland, Wash. and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Besides his parents, Rod was preceded in death by his son, Murray Carl Plante; and two daughters, Dana Marie Plante and Arlene Johnson Barnes. A memorial Service was held on Jan.23, 2006 at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash. Sherman-Knapp Funeral is in charge of arrangements.
