Sammie was born Aug. 12, 1909 in Panoka, Alberta, Canada to Jack and Carla hertz. The family moved to Santa Cruz, Calif. And settled in Bonners Ferry, Id. When Sammie was six years old. She picked her nickname while playing basketball in high school. Sammie received her teaching degree from Lewis-Clark Normal School and taught at North Side in Bonners Ferry. She married Duncan Branom in 1933 and moved to Lewiston in 1937. Sammie was a great support to Dunc in all his endeavors. They farmed together in Tammany until 1984, when they moved into town. Sammie loved to play golf (and had a hole-in-one) at the Lewiston Country club and was an avid bridge and cribbage player. She exhibited boundless energy and loved the mountains, where she would fish and hunt for wild mushrooms. She always kept her sense of humor and had a smile for others. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Dunc; son James; granddaughter Suzanne Henderson Porter; and sister Vada Hughes. Sammie is survived by two daughters, Barbara Henderson of Boise, Id. And pat Fellows of Great Falls, Mont., grandchildren Tom and wife Cindy Henderson, Michael C. Fellows, Steven B. and wife Susan Fellows, Jonathon J. and wife Rebecca Fellows, and Robert D. and wife Carla Fellows; along with numerous great-grandchildren.
