Bruce Allan F. Bruce, former well known Bonners Ferry resident passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lewiston, Sunday afternoon, December 30. He was born October 7, 1892, at Bonners Ferry, the son of Malcolm and Margaret Mills Bruce. He grew up and received his education in the Boundary County schools and spent most of his life as a boundary County resident. As a young man growing up in Boundary County he helped his folks with a dairy operation and he delivered milk in five gallon cans by horse and buggy to customers throughout the city of Boners Ferry. He resided in Bonners Ferry in the early days when the twon was situated in Kootenai County, later in Bonner County and eventually becoming Boundary County. In 1917 he entered the U. S. Navy and served as a naval aviator during World War I, flying missions over Italy and France. As a pilot flying bombing missions, he had no communication systen in the planes and bombing was done by pushing the bombs or other incendiary devices, out of the door of the plane when the time seemed right. Upon receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1919 he returned to Bonners Ferry and was associated with Fred Alborn in the logging business until 1942 when he moved to Portland, Ore., where he worked in shipyards during World War II. In 1944 he returned to Bonners Ferry and was associated with Weyerhauser Lumber Company and later became foreman on the state highway department. On May 23, 1942 he married Edna L. Vetter at Portland, Ore. In 1955 he moved to Lewiston where he became manager of the Idaho State Liquor Store, holding this position until retirement in 1963. Since retirement he has continued to make his home at Lewiston. He was an active member of Boundary Post No. 55 American Legion, serving as a Post Commander and also helped to buld the Letion Hall located at the fairgrounds after the 1948 flood. He also was a member of the Knights of Pythians Lodge and the Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Edna L. Bruce, Lewiston, and a daughter, Mrs. LaVonne Yeoumans, of Coeru d’Alene. Also, four grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews survive. Graveside rites will be conduced at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 4, at Grandview Cemetery with Commander William Chugg and Chaplain Les Howard of Boundary Post No. 55 American Legion officiating. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Boundary Post No. 55 American Legion. Interment will follow in the family plot at Grandview Cemetery.
