Maurice Vincent Bucher passed away Monday, April 28, 2003 after a long fight against cancer. He was born July 19, 1935 in Bonners Ferry, ID during the depression and was raised on the family homestead of his parents, Frank and Edna along with his brother, Julien in the Kootenai Valley of North Idaho. Having a colorful and memorable childhood in the mountains during the depression, Vince graduated high school in 1953 and joined the Air Force. He had a long and rewarding career in Electronics with the Air Force, making friendships that would last to the day he died and leaving a lasting impression on those he served with. Before departing from the military, he traveled all around the world. He married and established a family. After the Air Force, Vince became a teacher with the Alamo Community College and was well loved by his students. For this, he was often known to be the number one instructor by the students from disadvantaged backgrounds who appreciated his devotion. He later moved to his final career with the Post Office repairing equipment. His dedicated work ethic made him a person who became well known among the people he worked with. He wholeheartedly believed in doing a good job so that maybe the price of postage would go down. In 1995, he retired due to non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He was treated, and it stayed in remission until July, 2002. He was finally felled by complications from colon cancer. Vince had a full life and many talents. He was an extremely disciplined man when doing electronics work but was also creative by being able to paint, draw, do photography, woodwork and many other endeavors. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sophia, and son, Maurice Jr. He is survived by his wife, Maria; sons, Michael and Tony; granddaughters, Nikki and Jessica from Florida; brother, Julien; sister-in-law Nancy, nieces, Janet and Joy; and his wife’s family from Texas. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew him. Visitation was Thursday, May 1, 2003 at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
