Camp, 87 Memorial services were held for Raymond C. Camp, 87, on May 12 at the English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Ray was born Feb. 22, 1920 in Greenfield, Iowa, the second of seven children born ot Lester W. and Mary E. Camp. He was raised and educated in this rural community and gained valuable work experience in various types of employment. Following his second year at Simpson College in Iowa, Ray went to San Diego, Calif., where he worked at Consolidated Aircraft and the San Diego Fire Department. He served with the U.S. Army 261st Field Artillery Battalion during WWII. After discharge, he returned to Iowa to farm. In 1953 he returned to San Diego and worked for the Department of Defense at the Miramar Naval Air Station Fire Department, retiring as Assistant Fire Chief in 1976. Living in Lakeside, Calif. For many years, he and his wife then moved to Naples in 1977 and to Coeur d’Alene in 1988. Ray was a member of the Presbyterian Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge, the International Association of Firefighters and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He received an A.S. Degree in Fire Science from San Diego City College in 1968. He held a Life Teaching Credential in California in Fire Science subjects. Ray was united in marriage with Ellen G. Childs in La Jolla, Calif., on April 12, 1942. They became parents of two children, Lawrence D. and Linda R. Ray is survived by his wife, Ellen; his son Lawrence (Connie), and their children Sarah and Lucas; one great grandchild Dean; his daughter Linda Birdsong; three sisters, Margaret Elson and Phillis Lochspeich of San Diego, Calif., and Reva Wood of Hayden, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dean and Max, and sisters Elizabeth and Betty. Internment will be in Greenfield, Iowa.
