Michael Cassetto, 92
   Michael Lieber Cassetto, 92, a Lewiston, Id. resident died May 10, 2002.  He
was born to Dominico and Eda Cassetto May 21, 1909, at West Mineral, Kan.
   When he was a year old, he moved to Lewiston.  When he was 6 years old, he
attended Garfield School.  He also attended schools in Lewiston and graduated
from Lewiston High in 1929.  He played all sports, including football,
basketball and track.
   In the fall of 1929, he went to Gonzaga University.  He played football all
four years and won several awards for being the outstanding football player at
Gonzaga.
   After college, he taught school at Pine City, Wash., and coached football and
basketball for two years.  He then moved to Bonners Ferry and coached football
and basketball from 1935-42.
   In 1942 he joined the Army and served in the infantry division for four
years.  After his discharge he went back to Bonners Ferry as the principal of
the high school for five years.  He was also awarded a master’s degree in
education from the University of Idaho.
   On June 10, 1947 he married Rose Helen Muscat in Lewiston.  In 1953, he moved
to Orofino, where he took the position of superintendent of schools with
District No. 171.
   He received numerous educational leadership and professional awards through
out his teaching career.  Upon retirement in 1947, he and his wife, Rose, moved
to Lewiston and built their retirement home.  Burial was at normal Hill Cemetery
in Lewiston.
