Graveside services were held March 18, 2003 at the Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. She was born Dec. 14, 1911 in Ralston, Neb. And was orphaned at a young age. She and her two young brothers moved west to Washington to live with their married, older sisters. As soon as she was old enough to go out on her own, Bernice found jobs in the Lamont, Wash. area. There she met Everett Cook. They married on Oct. 26, 1933 in Colfax, Wash. Everett and Bernice farmed in the Lamond and Sprague, Wash. area until buying a farm in Kootenai Valley near Bonners Ferry, Idaho in 1951. She served as a correspondent for the District #5 news for the Bonners Ferry Herald. They raised five children, Marjorie, Dale, Gary and twins, June and Judy. Everett passed away in May of 1980. Bernice continued to live on the farm until 1990, when she purchased a home in Bonners Ferry and moved into town. She remained in her home until moving into the Restorium about six years ago, late in 2002 she moved into the Selkirk View Home where she was residing at the time of her death. Bernice enjoyed being a farmer’s wife and mother. She loved the mountains and Kootenai Valley and often said she was living in God’s country. Her children and grandchildren were her delight. She was a member of the Busy Bee Club. She is survived by four of her five children; Marjorie and husband Larry Pinkerton of Bonners Ferry, Id.; Gary and wife July of Elko, Nev.; June and husband David Burnett of Ramona, Calif.; and Judy and husband, Larry swing of Bonners Ferry, Id.; also by 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
