He was born June 5, 1922 to Roy and Hazel Day in Flaxville, Mont., where he spent his childhood. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served in the South Pacific aboard the U.S.S. Alaska during World War II. In 1947 he married Florence Foss. They had four children: Dallas, Diane, Danelle and Dick. The family moved from Montana to Bonners Ferry in 1956. They divorced in 1972. In 1974 he met and married Grace Tanner. With that union, he “inherited” another five children; Clyde Tanner, Roger Tanner, Terry Tanner, Short Tanner and Mary Ann Dinning. Bud worked briefly in the motor freight business. He later worked in logging and at local sawmills. He was very involved in the Senior Citizen Center and was instrumental in acquiring a new center for seniors in Bonners Ferry. He served on the Senor Center Board of Directors for more than 20 years and as Advisor for 12 years. He received numerous state awards for his service. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame for Aging and Audlt Services, Advisory Council in 1999. Bud will be remembered for his sharp wit and keen sense of humor. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends, which included backyard barbecues, Saturday night Pinochle parties and huge family gatherings. He is survived by his wife o 31 years, Grace, his children: Dallas Day of Coeur d’Alene, Diane Cooper (Ben)of Rathdrum, Danelle Jenkins (Dave) of Craig, Colo., and Dick Day of Bonners Ferry. Step-children, Clyde Tanner (Arlis) of Rathdrum, Roger Tanner (Kathy_ of Coeur d’Alene, Short Tanner (Cindi) of Vancouver, Wash., and Mary Ann Dinning of Bonners Ferry; 27 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at the Free Methodist Church on Friday, April 14, 2006 at 11 a.m. Donations may be made to Bonners Ferry Senior Citizen Center.
