Guthrie lifetime resident passed away unexpectedly July 19, 2002. He was 77 years old. Larry was born in Sandpoint, Idaho on Oct. 1, 1924 to Chauncey E. and Marjorie Olds Guthrie, the second of four children. He was raised and educated in Bonners Ferry, graduating high school in 1943. He was accepted into cadet training for the Army Air Corps at what was then Washington State College, serving just over three years. While stationed in Karachi, India, he met Marjorie Theiss, a link trainer in the Women's Air Corp. They married Sept.1 and raised four children here in Bonners; Steven, Charles, Susan and Mary. Larry retired in 1985 after 28 years as a rural mail carrier with the USPS following an extended illness. His days were filled with gardening, friends and his family. He enjoyed carpentry, roses, reading and helping his children. He was a member of the First Baptist Church here in Bonners Ferry, past Master of AF & AM Lodge #43 of Masonic Lodge, past patron of the Order of Eastern Star, past member of VFW American Legion and Ancient Order of the Deep. Larry is survived by Marj. his wife of 56 years, son Steven (Linda), Charles (Nancy), daughter Mary Dinning (Dan), all of Bonners Ferry, and daughter Susan Bennett (Fred) of Las Vegas, Nev., as well as eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, his sister Mildred MacDonald, and brothers Richard and Marvin Guthrie. He was preceded in death by his parent. Memorial services will be held Thursday, Aug. 1 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Bonners Ferry.
