He was born Nov. 20, 1917 in Wiley, Col, to Earl and Bessie (Dey) Hill. At a young age his family moved to Wilsonville, Neb., and farmed. The stock market crash of 1929 forced the family to move. They arrived in 1931 at Bonners Ferry, Idaho where Don graduated from high school. On Nov. 3, 1941 he married Winona Everhart. Don worked at the Holden Mine Company in the Lake Chelan, Wash. area through 1945. In 1946 he took a job building a power line for the Smith Brothers from Bonneville to Ephrata, Wash. After that, he worked out of Ephrata for the Groves Electrical Contracting Company on an open contract with the Grand County PUD. He was a line construction Foreman and a “powder man.” He moved his family to Soap Lake in 1946, then to Moses Lake in 1948 and finally to Ephrata in 1949. He was employed by the Grant County PUD in August 1958 at Priest Rapids in Electrical maintenance. He soon was foreman, and finally supervisor of electrical maintenance of the Priest Rapids and Wanapum Dam project until he retired October 1981. Don enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, golf, as well as bowling, and in his retirement years, travel. He also was an asset to the community working 13 years as a Boy Scout Master of Troup 42. His deepest love was the cherished moments spent with his family and especially his grandchildren. Don is survived by his wife, Winona, of 61 years; a brother Garold of Irving, Texas; one son, Steve Hill of Moses Lake, Wash.; 2 daughters; Marva Jo Vance of Ephrata, Wash, and Nancy Young of Silverlake, Wash.; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
