Hofer passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday at the age of 90 in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 13th at 11:00 a.m. at the Bonners Ferry Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Grandview Cemetery. She was born in Yale, South Dakota on September 23, 1916 to David R. Hofer and Rachel (Walter) Hofer. Her younger years were spent at Raley, Alberta, Canada on a farm and also receiving her education there. On November 20, 1937 she was united in marriage to Peter P. Hofer in Cardston Alberta, Canada. To this union they were blessed with five children. Ruth (Hofer) and son-in-law Mervin Stutzman of Christmas Valley, Oregon; Donny Hofer of Kalispell, Montana; Dorothy Miller of Stover, Missouri, Benny Hofer and daughter-in-law Connie (Roberts) of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; Carol Dashiell of Christmas Valley, Oregon. In their early years of marriage they farmed at Spring Coulee, Alberta, Canada. In March of 1951 they sold out and moved to Kalispell, Montana where they farmed. There is where their spiritual journey began. They became members of the Mountain View Mennonite Church and several other churches in Oregon and Pasco as they moved about. In 1969 they moved to Pasco, Washington where they again farmed, stacked hay and raised asparagus. They enjoyed many years there with family and all their special friends. Kay was a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her family very deeply. She loved to share her gift of cooking, baking, and making her guests feel welcome. In 2000 her last move was to Bonners Ferry, Idaho to be near family and needed extra care, she lived at the Restorium for several years and with increased health problems moved to the Boundary Community Nursing Home. She enjoyed attending Kootenai Mennonite Church as long as she could and where she was a member. Preceding her in death were he parents, her beloved husband, Pete of 56 years, an infant daughter at birth, infant grandson P.J. at birth, another grandson Shane Hofer who was 27 years old and was killed April 22, 2002, she grieved deeply for her beloved Shane; four sisters and three brothers. Left to remember Kay are her immediate family along with 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, one sister Elizabeth Mandel, two sister-in-laws Mary Fossum and Myrtle Hofer all of Alberta, Canada and numerous nieces and nephews.
