Services were held Monday, Dec. 30, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Internment services followed at 2 p.m. at the Holmes Family Cemetery on Pine Creek near Troy, Mont. Mr. Holmes was born at Gove County, Kansas on March 15, 1919, the son of James Otto Holmes and Eve Mae Walt Holmes; the family remained in Kansas until moving to Bonners Ferry, Idaho in 1934. He served with the United States Army prior to World War II. He married Dorothy Owen Oct. 24, 1942. They remained in Boundary County, Idaho until moving to the Yaak area near Troy in 1946 where they had since resided at their home on Pine Creek. Their marriage vows were solemnized at the Salt Lake City Temple Aug. 15, 1992. For many years, he had engaged in both logging and sawmill operation in the Yaak and surrounding area. He had been a member of the Troy branch of the LDS church. He enjoyed the beauty of the Montana Great Outdoors that surrounded his home on Pine Creek and particularly enjoyed being husband, father and grandfather to his family. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl M. Fredricks in 1991. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Dorothy, at the family home; four sons, James E. Holmes and wife Elizabeth of Three Lakes, Wash.; Terry R. Holmes and wife Marcine of Draper, Utah; Larry E. Holmes of Toole, Utah; and Samuel M. Holmes and wife Leslie of Draper, Utah; a brother, Cecil Homes and wife Gladys of Spokane, Wash.; sisters Larena Daniels and husband John of Sandpoint, Idaho; and Ramona Plato and husband Gale of Santaquin, Utah; 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
