Martin was born in Kaycee, Wyoming on March 24, 1918 to James and Anna Jones, and he was the youngest of six children. He moved to Sadis with his family at the age of 11. He attended grade school in Sadis and graduated high school from Granger High. Martin met and wed Marcelene Jackson in Sunnyside, Wash. on June 14, 1940. He enlisted in the Air Force on March 15, 1944 and served as a tail gunner and was an accomplished pilot. He was discharged in April of 1946 at the rank of corporal. Martina and his wife and one year old daughter Marcelene Nancy, established their home in Brownstown where he did farm work and share cropped. In 1956 they moved to Harrah, Wash. to manage a hop ranch. Their family had grown to three children, a boy, Martin Gary Jones, and a son, Steven Noble Jones. Martin loved to make things for his children. He made one of the first Pogo sticks and go-carts. Among other fun things he loved spending time with his children/ he also lived fishing, hunting, and most of all flying. He sold his prize possession, a 1926 Model A, for $100 to join a flying club. He loved to go flying in the wee hours of the morning. In 1971 while vacationing in Bonners Ferry, Idaho he was approached by Boundary County hop growers to move to Bonners Ferry to lay out and plant the hop fields for Coors Corporation. He moved with his wife and sons to Bonners Ferry and built a home. He worked the hop fields for 12 years before retiring. He then worked for Quants for a year before making a trip to Alaska where he and Marceline spent the summer with his niece, Pauline, fishing and exploring the country. Upon returning to Bonners Ferry, he continued working for Quant for a few moths. He then went to work for county Road and Bridge. He then decided to pursue his love of fishing, he got a boat hooked it to his camper and he and Marcelene went fishing. The Columbia River saw them a good many times hauling in sturgeon and enjoying good times. In later years he decided he was ready to own the miniature horses he’d been dreaming of. He enjoyed playing with his two mares and foals until his death. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marcelene Jones of Bonners Ferry, Id.; daughter Marcelene A.
