Funeral Services will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 6. Lila was two years old when her family moved from the prairies of Loreburn to the mountains of Bonners Ferry. The family lived for a time at the Colony Ranch in District 5 while Almer engaged in farming. Later they built their home on the North Bench above District 2. By this time, her family consisted of three older brothers; Arlo, Ralph and Orion; and a younger sister, Korra. They shared many adventures together growing up on the farm and hiking the S.I. tracks to and from school. Lila graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1938. While working at the Dairy Lunch in the old creamery building, Lila met many of the town’s local characters, including her future husband, Howard Kent. They married in November of 1941. Howard, the son of A. J. and Nellie Kent, was I the real estate and insurance business. They made their home on the South Hill and had a son, Howard Jr. They spent many weekends hunting, fishing and entertaining friends at their cabin on the Moyie River. In the 1950’s, Lola went to work for the Selective Service Board and remained at that position until the system came to an end in the 1970’s. Lila cared for Howard, a stroke victim, for several years until he passed away in 1981. She also was a caregiver to her brother-in-law and father. Lila cared deeply for her family, church and friends. She always wrote to them or called on special occasions, sent gifts and prepared special meals. The annual Grunerud Reunion was an event she dearly loved. Every Memorial Day she placed flowers on the graves of the relatives at Grandview Cemetery. During her short stay at the Restorium, Lila enjoyed the friends she made and the loving care given by the staff. Lila’s humor and loving heart will be greatly missed. Lila is survived by her son, Howard; daughter-in-law Donna (English) Kent; sister, Korra Olson and her husband, Omer; brothers; Ralph and his wife Jen, Orion and his wife Fran; granddaughter Lynnette Kent; great granddaughter Jessica Karr; grandson Rob Kent and his wife; grandson Rob Kent and his wife Christine; and many nieces and nephews. Lila was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Goodwin and Arlo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, Friends of the Restorium, or the Grandview Cemetery.
