She will be remembered as very loving caring and always concerned for the comforts and feelings of others. She could always find something good about everyone. She was an encourager and a blessing to her family and friends. She will be missed by many but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved. Donella Lee Kramer was born to Donald and Myrtle McColl Aug. 26, 1920 in Bassano, Alberta. Her family moved to Bonners Ferry; then briefly to Long Beach, Wash., then moved back to Bonners Ferry in 1932 where she attended school and graduated from Bonners Ferry Height School in 1938. Donella graduated from Eastern Washington College of Education in 1941. She began her teaching career in 1941 in Aberdeen, Wash. At the outbreak of WWII she earned a water safety instructor certificate and taught WAVES the fundamentals of ship survival. She married Charles Lauren Kramer in Valdez, Alaska May 11, 1946. She taught school in Valdez. While there she had two sons, Don and Charles. The family moved to Bonners Ferry in1948and she taught at the South Side School for one school term. She helped organize the Boundary Country Kindergarten Association and spent 3 years teaching and coordinating the association. Three more children were born in Bonners Ferry – Cliff, Reenie, and David. In 1960 the family moved to Stampede Lake in Naples where she joined the staff at Naples Grade school teaching 1st and 2 grade until she retired in 1981 after 33 years of teaching. School children enjoyed field trips to the Stampede Lake Game Farm she helped her husband manage for about 30 years. Her hobbies included bird watching, crocheting, gardening, crossword puzzles and reading. She enjoyed being part of volunteer organizations. She was inducted into the Idaho Teacher’s Hall of Fame in September 1992. She was selected as Boundary County’s Teacher of the Year. She served on the Boundary county Election Board and the boundary County Historical Society helping prepare Boundary County’s “History Book”. She was a member of Helping Hands of Naples, AARP, Retire Teachers, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Eastern Star, United Methodist church, and the Springs of Living Water Free Methodist Church. Donella was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Myrtle McColl, her brother Eugene McColl, an infant son, her husband Charles Kramer and two infant grandchildren. She is survived by her children; Don and Wendy Kramer of Naples, Charles and Tessie Kramer of Naples, Cliff and Mary Kramer of Eastport, Reenie and Pat Doolin of Colville, Dave and Andrea Kramer of Naples, 15 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and a nephew Glenn McColl. A memorial service will be held at the Bonners Ferry United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003. Memorials in her honor can be made to Springs of Living Water Free Methodist.
