Leslie AUTO PLUNGES OFF HILL ROAD Auto Accident Saturday Noon Results in Death of Hilliard M. Leslie Wm. Brandt Seriously Injured Leslie funeral Held Here Tuesday Afternoon. H.M. Leslie a prominent citizen of this community who has been a resident of the district for some 25 years, died at 12:30 o’clock Saturday afternoon as a result of Injuries received in an auto accident - which occurred an hour earlier on the Park addition hill road. Mr. Leslie and William Brant were on their way to an auction on the south bench and were traveling in Mr. Brant’s Ford auto. At a point about 500 feet from the railway crossing the car went oft the road, across sidewalk and rolled down bank, lodging against some trees on the Great Northern right-of-way. No one knows just what caused the accident as Mr. Brattt was so seriously injured that every attempt to talk of it has, been discouraged. There was talk that a car coming down the bill And crowded the Bratt auto off the road, but there is no foundation for this rumor. It is probable that something broke about steering gear which caused the car to veer to the right suddenly. Ralph Clapp and T. E. Lavln, of the Bonners Ferry Grain and Milling Company saw the auto as it rolled down the hillside. They phoned for Drs. Fry and Bowell and then hurried to give aid to the victims of the accident Brant suffered a broken collarbone, fractured ribs, and several bruises and cuts. It is expected that he will be able to leave the hospital in about a week. The funeral of Mr. Leslie was, held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, at the Methodist Church, Rev. R. W. Mason officiating the services being conducted under the auspices of the local Moose lodge, of which the deceased was a member. A large company, of the friends of the deceased attended and brought many beautiful floral offerings indicative of the high esteem in which the deceased was held. The services were simple and impressive. Two beautiful hymns were sung By Mrs. R. W. Mason and her sister-in-law, Miss Lela Mason. Miss Evelyn Lindberg playing the accompaniment. The pallbearers were James Chance, Jack Shields. J. W. Jefferies, A. W. Walker, Clarence Payne and Joe Neumayer. Internment was had in the Grandview cemetery. Hilliard Milton Leslie was born in Canada and when a small child came with his parents to live in Michigan. He came to this section some 25 years ago, took up a homestead and until a few years ago when his health began to fail followed farming. He was married in 1969 to Miss Una Lee and to this union was born three children, Adelaide, Betty Lee and Charles Milton. In addition to his wife and children, the deceased is survived by his brother W.A. Leslie, of this District, Mrs. C. W. Shoup, a sister of Spokane, a brother who resides at Vancouver, B.C. and two sisters who reside at Hillman and Ewen, Mich. Mrs. Shoup was here to attend the funeral and returned home yesterday morning. interest in community affairs, was a good neighbor and a kind living husband and father. His hosts of friends join in mourning his death and extend deepest sympathies to the bereaved relatives.
