   Donald Russell Nieland, 70, was born on Aug. 2, 1936, to Bill and Rhona
Nieland, of Bonners Ferry, Idaho.  He passed away peacefully at home on July 25,
surrounded by his family.
   Don graduated from Washington State University as a member of the Sigma Phi
Epsilon Fraternity.  He then lived in the San Francisco Bay area and had great
times as a young man.  He owned and operated Nieland Yule Trees, the family
business, and worked as assistant manager of Travis Pattern and Foundry in
Spokane, Wash., until retirement.
   Don was a member of the Spokane Country Club and served as president.  His
greatest passions in life were his family, his love of golf and history.  He was
a man of great charisma, knowledge, integrity and dignity.
   Don is survived by his wife Julie; son, Bryan Nieland of Spokane; daughters,
Kelly Nieland of Bellingham, Wash.; Kara Arnold, of New Castle, Colo.; sister,
Sharen Evans, of Twin Falls, Idaho; nieces Barbara Neary, of Tustin Ranch,
Calif.’ And Valory Reed, of Laguna Niguel, Calif.  A celebration of Don’s life
was held on Aug.6 at 4 p.m. at the Spokane Country Club, 2010 W. Waikiki,
Spokane, Wash.
