Nims, 78, went to be with the Lord on Friday September 2, 2005. Services were held September 17 at Crossroads Community Chapel in Bonners Ferry. Bobbie was born in Sumas, Washington, November 8, 1926, to Don and Dorothy Nims. He received his formal education there, graduating from Nooksack Valley High. In 1944, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, taking his training at Farragut, Idaho. Continuing his education he became an electronics technician. He was on three different PGMs, which were used to destroy enemy subs. He was honorably discharged with medals of distinction in 1946. He went to work for West Coast Telephone Company for three years, then in 1950 he met and married his life’s sweetheart and partner, Ecco J. Estabrooks, on August 29 of that year. They had two sons and one daughter born to them and later adopted an Amerasian baby girl from Seoul, Korea. They settled on a three acre farm north of Everett, Washington, where they resided for the next 32 years raising their family. Bob retired from General Telephone Northwest in 1987 and they sold the farm and moved to Sequim, Washington, in the Olympic Peninsula. They were there for eight and a half years before moving to Bonners Ferry in 1995 to be near Ecco's aging mother, Lillian Estabrooks. Bob’s attributes were many and varied. He coached little league basketball for many years. He was a leader of the Royal Rangers in his church, the Marysville Assemblies of God, where he was an active member for 32 years. He was an honor blood donor in Everett, where his picture still hangs. He belonged to a Kiwanis Club in Marysville and Sequim for 25 years, earning many medals and honors. Bob and his wife Ecco attended Crossroads Chapel, which they love and appreciated. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ecco; sons Lon Nims and wife Sandy, Stanwood, Washington, and Rex Nims and wife Koko, Marysville, Washington; daughter Kim Voteberg and husband Jim, Ketchikan, Alaska; brothers Bill Nims, Aiken, South Carolina; Jerry Nims, Baraboo, Wisconsin, and Larry Nims, Everson, Washington; sister Susan Nims, Oak Harbor, Washington; loving step- mother Pauline Nims, Everson, Washington, and eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. Also his family here who greatly loved him and will miss him. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Sunny Joy Nims Gugredon, Honolulu, Hawaii. Memorial may be made to Crossroads Community Chapel in Bob’s memory.
