Burial was conducted on Wednesday, Jan. 8 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Sandpoint, Id. Internment followed in Pinecrest memorial park. Les was born in Sandpoint, Id. June 20, 1930, the son of Frank and Martha Rogers. He attended Bonner County schools and worked at the Food Shop, operated by his brother Joe Rogers. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the U.S. Marine Corp, in Korea for six months. He married Patricia Gerstenberger on June 19, 1953 in Orange, Calif. He worked with his brother Joe in the Francis J. Grocery Store on Main Street in Sandpoint and Roger Thrift on Boyer Ave. He was active in the operation of M & J grocery stores in St. Maries and Bonners Ferry Id. Les established Rogers Excel on 5th Ave. in Sandpoint and later Rogers Excel at the Mall North of Sandpoint. He retired in 1989. He was a great supporter and fan, of Sandpoint. He supported Sandpoint sports by his attendance, financial support, and in many other quiet ways. He was a member of the Bulldog Bench, purchased 4-H beef at the Bonner County Fair to support the youth of that area, donated food baskets and Christmas trees to area churches. He supported the Sandpoint Lions Club, donating to the Beach Barbecue and was named Grand Marshall of the 4th of July parade by the Lions Club. He was named North Idaho Booster of the year in 1977, and was also inducted into the Sandpoint High School hall of Fame. Les was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Benevolent and Protective Order of elks, #1376 in Sandpoint. He enjoyed his family and salmon fishing on the coast. He is survived by wife Patricia “Pat” Rogers, Sandpoint, 4 daughters, Carolyn, and Steve Berger, Sandpoint, Linda and Doug Wiley, Carson, Calif.; Francie Rogers, San Pedro, Calif.; Leslie Rogers, Spokane, Wash.; 6 grandchildren, Rob Berger, Tricia, and Aaron Hunting, Andrew Wiley, Matthew Wiley, Leyna Lyons, Michael Lester Rogers; 3 sisters; Connie Greenleaf, Sandpoint; Josephine Rogers, Sandpoint, Lillian Patrick, San Pedro; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, Felix, Joe, Frankie, Johnnie and Albert; and a sister Mary Pruitt.
