A. Hospital in Spokane, Wash. Graveside services were held Thursday, February 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the Grandview Cemetery with Rev. Larry Nelson officiating. Artie was born July 28, 1914 in Nashua, Mont., to John and Frances Smith. In 1918 he moved to Bonners Ferry where he attended school. After his education he went to work in the woods until 1940 when he joined Battery B and served in World War II. After his discharge in 1945 he returned to Boundary County where he continued working in the woods and farming until he retired in 1979. He had resided at his North Bench home until his death. Artie loved the out-of-doors and spending time fishing, gardening, working with his flowers, photography and music. He was a member of the American Legion post 55. Artie is survived by three brothers, Hollice J. Smith of Bonners Ferry, Wilfred F. Smith of Bonnie Lake, Wash., and Earl A. Smith of The Dalles Oregon and one sister, Ethel P. Myers of Post Falls, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Frances Smith and two brothers, Ray and Gordon Smith.
