A memorial service will be held Dec. 28, 2006, at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Hall Community Church in Bonners Ferry. Dale was born Aug. 26, 1936, in Turner, Ore., to Charlie F. And Mary A. Standley. He attended schools in Turner, Ore., graduating from Cascade Union High School in 1954. Within one week afer graduation he was inducted into the U. S. Marine Corp. Dale served in Japan and Okinawa; receiving an honorable discharge in June of 1957. Dale attended OCE (Oregon College of Education) after returning to civilian life. He worked in a plywood mill in Aumsville, Ore., until moving to Redmond, Ore., after he married Donna Meyer in Salem, Ore., in June of 1960. In Central Oregon Dale worked in a molding mill for 17 years while raising their family and maintaining active participation in their local church and enjoying many outdoor activities. During the ‘60s and ‘70s, Dales hunting experiences were occasionally featured in outdoor magazines. For 10 years, Dale was a Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputy, where he worked with a canine unit. After retiring from law enforcement in 1986, Dale and wife, Donna moved to their North Idaho property to develop the land into a vviable farm and build a small log home. He developed the farm out of the things of which all farms are made – forest, brush, rocks, soil, sun and the generally welcome precipitation of North Idaho. He made it out of labor and patience – an experience resulting in much contentment and satisfaction. Dale’s survivors include wife, Donna of Porthill area; daughter, Julie Bussard of St. Prex, Switzerland; son, Robert Standley of Madras, Ore.; sister, Carol Smith of Prescott, Ariz.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harold Standley. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations could be made to our local Bonner/Boundary Community Hospice.
