Frank Stonechest, for many years a resident of this vicinity, passed away at the Bonners Ferry hospital yesterday morning. Death was due to pernicious anemia from which he had been suffering for the past two years. Mr. Stonechest was born in Wayne County, N.Y., on August 14, 1862. In the later 80's he went to Chadron, Nebr. where he was joined by his brother James, and the two boys drove overland to western Montana, arriving here in 1889. Shortly afterward the brothers located on what is now the Fitzpatrick ranch east of Bonners Ferry, where they planned to engage in cattle raising. Becoming discouraged in this because of the severe winters, Frank turned to prospecting and mining which he followed until but a few years ago. In 1894 he located the Snowstorm mine near Troy, Mont., which later became one of the most productive mines in that vicinity. Although Mr. Stonechest made his home in Troy, Mont., he spent much of his time at Leoula and in Bonners Ferry. He was of a quiet and peaceful nature and made many strong and lasting friendships. He leaves a host of sorrowing friends in this community who morn the loss and not only as a friend, but also as one of the pioneer builders of this country. He is survived by one brother, James , of Leoula; and five sisters, Mrs. Susie Baker of New Jersey; Mrs. Arthur Summers, Flint, Mich.; Mrs. Paul Lugram, Flint, Mich.; Mrs. Suphronia Baker, Kalamazoo, Mich,; and Mrs. R. Fish of Williamson, N.Y. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Crouch funeral chapel. Internment will be made in Gandview Cemetery.
