He was born in Kemme, Germany on Feb. 18, 1908. He came to America at the onslaught of WWI. He grew up in North Dakota and eventually moved to Montana, where he married Mary Ann Raty in 1940 with whom he raised five children and celebrated 59 years of marriage. Albert owned a coalmine until 1942. He then purchased his first farm in Pendroy, Mont. He was very successful and bought an additional farm in Montana. In 1956, he moved his family to Porthill, Idaho where he operated the boundary Creek Ranch in the Kootenai River Valley. In 1968, he Retired to Coeur d’Alene and passed the operation of the farm and timberland to his son. During his retirement years, he traveled extensively abroad. However, he remained active in the farming operation. The farmland is currently being used by the federal government as a wetland and wildlife preserve. Albert was a spiritual man and was looking forward to going home to be with God and his wife, Mary, who preceded him in death in 1999. He is survived by his son, Albert Thorman, Jr. (digger) and daughter-in-law, Maggie, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; daughters, Elinor Snyder of Great Falls, Mont., Phyllis Bender of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; Joyce Arthur of Seattle, Wash., Louise Weed of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and his beloved friend, Charles Leeper of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He also has 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Funeral services were held March 23, 2003 at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel. Burial followed at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
