Wagner Passes at Age 92; Services Saturday Christian J. (Charlie) Wagner, 92-year-old longtime Boundary County resident, passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 5 at the hospital where he had been a patient for one week. He was born February 24, 1871 in Ernsbach, Germany, where he grew up and received his education. At 16 years of age, he migrated to the United States, settling in Iowa. He became a naturalized citizen in 1900. He operated flourmills for many years in North and South Dakota and also throughout the Inland Empire area. In 1889 he married Julia Floberg at Kindred, N.D. In 1905 they moved to Spokane, and later in 1910 came to the Round Prairie district where he homesteaded, operating the farm until 1943, when he sold the farm and moved to Bonners Ferry. Later, following sale of his home here, and spending a few years in the east, he returned again to Idaho where he bought a home in Ponderay. In 1952, he bought the Mt. View hotel here, operating it until his retirement at the age of 85. His wife preceded him in death on July 9, 1923. He was a past member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge. Survivors include a son; Chester W. Wagner of Spokane; a brother, John Wagner of Schuyler, Neb. three grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Services were conducted Saturday morning, Dec. 7 at the Hillcrest Memorial chapel with Rev. Ralph Schultz officiating. Vocalist was Lowell Carlson, accompanied by Mrs. Arthur Campbell at the organ. Pallbearers were A. J. Balon, Harold McNally, Carroll C. Kruegel, Vic Rae, R. C. Wickstrom and Harold Zimmerman. Interment followed in Grandview cemetery.
