Gabby was born April 5, 1923 in Bonners Ferry, ID to Robert Ernest and Francis Neumeyer Williams. He married Barbara Gray Dec. 31, 1971. Gabby played professional baseball for nearly a decade after serving with the U.S. Navy in World War II. He played for teams in Wenatchee and Yakima, WA, as well as the Spokane Indians. When he retired from professional baseball, the Lewiston Chamber of Commerce hosted Gabby Williams Night and awarded him the Distinguished Service Award and Man of the Year. The Nez Perce Tribe named him honorary chief for his work with youngsters. He coached baseball at Wallace High School and finished his career as principal of Medford High School He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara, and five children; Robert, Patricia, Anne Marie, Janet and Brenda; his two younger brothers, Frank and Leonard, and a sister Bernice. A memorial service will be held in Medford Sept. 28, 2002.
