Caldwell Man Accused of Assaulting His Niece Held to Answer to the District 
Court -- Harry Adams Sentenced to Pay a Fine
 
Caldwell, Feb. 15 -- The case of the state of Idaho vs Joseph Patterson before 
Judge Little on a charge of assault with attempt to commit rape on the person 
of Blanche Gregory, his niece, was disposed of today by the defendant's being 
bound over to the district court in the sum of $2000.  The defense offered no 
evidence.
 
A sad point in connection with this affair is that the wife and four little 
children are destitute, having absolutely nothing.  Judge Little will commit 
them to the poor farm.
 
Harry Adams, with the Uncle Tom Cabin company, was arrested today on the 
charge of assault.  He pleaded guilty and was fined $20 and costs.  When the 
street parade of the Uncle Tom company was passing the College of Idaho 
snowballs were thrown at Harry Adams, and he rushed at the boys, N. J. Brown 
and Roy Snyder, with a knife.  The trial was had this morning before Judge 
Madden.
 
The mother of our merchant, Mr. Callinder, arrive last evening from the east.
 
J. P. Johnson, who has been quite sick the past week, though not entirely 
well, has resumed his work at the court hours.
 
Three families arrived on last night's train and have gone to Star, where they 
will settle.  
 
John Jones and family arrived last night from Kansas, and will locate here.  
They are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Brumbaugh.
 
John C. Rice left last night for Jacksonville, Ill., where he was called by 
the severe illness of his sister.
