The event took place in Marsh Basin on the 30th of September. The party who committed the deed was one Alva Lewis and the victim was Abram Jobe. They were neighbors and had some trouble about some work that had been done by the Lewis boys, which Jobe was to pay for in grain. Some dispute arose to the time when payment should be made, and it appears that Lewis undertook to force Jobe to pay the grain over immediately and upon Jobe's refusing to do so, Lewis went for his gun that he had left a short distance from Lewis's house and when he returned and got within 15 or 20 feet of Jobe, where the latter was working in a ditch, some words passed between the men, where upon Lewis shot Jobe through the leg just below the knee nearly tearing the leg off and making amputation necessary. This operation was performed two days after the shooting by Dr. J. L Lucas, of Albion and the ninth day after it happened Jobe died. Lewis was arrested within a few hours after he did the deed, and after an examination before Judge Hyroon he was held on a bond of $5000. In default of which he was locked up by Sheriff Stokes for safekeeping until Court sets. Additional Comments: Alva Lewis was found quilty of 2nd degree murder and sentenced to prison. He was 38 years old. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/id/cassia/newspapers/cassiaco327nnw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/idfiles/ File size: 1.9 Kb
