Basil Pettingill, 74, retired Elba rancher, died Sunday at Magic Valley Memorial Hospital in Twin Falls after a long illness. Born Sept. 21, 1900, at Elba, he attended school in Elba and had lived there his entire life. On June 10, 1920, he was married to Inez Parish in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Mr. Pettingill was a member of the LDS Church and served as a counselor in the bishopric, as YMMIA president, drama director, and was on the finance committee of the building fund for the Elba Ward. Surviving are his wife; a son, Lynn Pettingill, Twin Falls; two daughters, Mrs. Thern (Donna) Ward, Almo; and Mrs. Ardel (Amy) Loveland, Pocatello; a brother, Clifford Pettingill, Hyde Park, Utah; and one sister, Mrs. Floyd (Ella) Leavitt, Boise. There are 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grand children. Mr. Pettingill was preceded in death by one son, three brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Elba Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Orville Sears officiating. Burial will be in the Elba Cemetery. Friends may call at the Payne Mortuary, Burley, Wednesday afternoon and evening and at the place of service one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday.
