Considering the roads, distance and size of the machinery at that period of time, it was quite a job to accomplish. In 1940 the Dredge finally went to work but was halted during World war II. It resumed work again when the war ended and ran again until 1947. Fred Baumhoff and J. R. Simplot purchased the dredge and operated it from 1950 to August 1952. The dredge donated by J. R. Simplot sits up Yankee Fork surrounded by several rock piles and dis-colored pools of water. It is under the protection of the U. S. Forest Service who owns and maintains it. This dredge is the last dredge of approximately 60 that have operated in Idaho since 1897.
