The discovery of the accident was caused by a hat belonging to one of the parties, being found on the slide. An alarm was given at once and everybody in Custer able and so doing rushed to the scene of the accident started a rescue of the buried men. Gene Truski who was first taken out has recovered, but with five minutes more suffocation he would have stood before his maker. The other two men, found soon after were dead, though energetic efforts were made and continued for some time, by Dr. Kirtley and others to try and revivify them and hold what spark of life might remain, but in vain. Sil Thomas and John Davis who were killed in the snowslide were buried from the Union Hall on the 15th.
