The snow was still about four feet deep over the remains, which was discovered by reason of a hole having been dug down to the body by a couger or panther which had eaten the flesh off the neck and breast; otherwise, the body was in a good state of preservation. Wentworth was lying on his back with his express pack under him. The body was buried on the side of the hill near where it was found, and the parties were engaged in looking for the body of Smith who perished at the same time. Mr. Hunter informs us that high water interferes very much with mining operations at loon Creek, and from the same cause the trail to Leesburg is almost impassible for pack trains. Beef cattle had arrived at Ore Grande from the Lemhi country and the miners at Loon Creek were well supplied with mutton and beef, at prices ranging from 25 to 30 cents. No trains can get through from Idaho for two or three weeks yet, unless they travel at night over the snow and pack their feed. There is at least fifty miles of snow between Payette and Ore Grande, but none in Deadwood Valley. Additional Comments: Names mentioned- M.A.Wentworth, Smith.
