Thoms Hamilton, proprietor of the Idaho meat market at Emmett, was shot to death in front of his place of business by Albert White Monday morning. White gave himself up at once and was later taken in charge by the sheriff from Caldwell. The shooting occurred a few minutes before 8 o’clock and was caused by the alleged attentions of Hamilton to Mrs. White. White met Hamilton on the morning of the tragedy and after a few words drew his revolver and fired, instantly killing Hamilton. After Hamilton fell White fired a second shot into the body of the prostrate man and coolly walked away, giving himself up to the officers. Hamilton was 36-years of age and was well known around Emmett. White is a new comer in Emmett and with his wife has been engaged in the restaurant business there. Hamilton was unmarried. Examination of Hamilton’s body was made shortly after the shooting and a revolver was found upon it. The weapon was inside his trousers and the handle was covered by a jumper. Whether he made any attempt to draw the weapon is not known. White refused to talk of the affair after the shooting beyond saying that he had to do it. A dispatch from Emmett to the Statesman under the date of June 29, says that the preliminary hearing of White for the shooting of Hamilton was then in progress at that place and that it was very probable he would be bound over to the district court.
