Gross, 76 year old pioneer of Gross, died at his residence five miles west of Emmett last Thursday morning. Mr. Gross was born in Saxony, Germany, in 1859 and came to Idaho 51 years ago. The long-time pioneer settled in what is now known as the Gross community on the Upper Squaw Creek almost five years before Idaho was admitted as a state to the Union. For years he was a prominent member of the community and an active leader in its development, welcoming each newcomer to the community which now bears his name. About seven years ago Mr. Gross moved to his home near Emmett although he continued to spend a great deal of his time in the Squaw Creek country engaged in the cattle business. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Anna Gross; five sons, William and Orvid of Emmett, Frank and Gustave of Ola and Marvin of Boise; three daughteers, Mrs. H. L. Granger of Caldwell, Mrs. D. O. MacAskill of Pearl and Mrs. W. W. Kimball of Emmett. He is also survived by a sister in Germany, a sister and brother in in California and 15 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Methodist Church last Saturday afternoon and interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Emmett.
