Satterwhite Word was received in this city late Sunday evening of the finding of the body of James Satterwhite, a farmer near Gross, who was drowned in the flood swollen waters of Squaw Creek May 25 while attempting to ford the stream on horseback. The body was found in a bend of the creek on the J. R. Hollford ranch about two miles below the ford by boys in swimming. The head and arms of the body were caught beneath some drift wood, but the lower portion was exposed to view. Sheriff Noland, Coroner Walter Brown and Prosecuting Attorney Reed drove to Gross Monday morning. The body had been taken from the creek. The face, having been under water was in a good state of preservation and recognizable. Owing to gossip that Satterwhite had been killed by a neighbor with whom he had had trouble, a careful examination was made by the officers, but no marks or wounds to sustain the rumors were found, and it was deemed unnecessary to hold an inquest. Undertaker Bucknum was called from Emmett to prepare the body for burial, and the funeral was held at Ola on Tuesday. The finding of the body and the clearing of all suspicion of foul play is a relief to the accused man as well as to the friends of Mr. Satterwhite.
