In the death of Ezekiel Sweet, which occurred Friday following an operation in 
a Boise hospital, another prominent Idaho pioneer passed from the ranks of 
that rapidly diminishing body of men and women who conquered the desert, 
developed the state's resources and laid the foundations for the development 
and comforts those who came after now enjoy.

Mr. Sweet was 76 years of age. He was born in Marathon, Ohio. His health had 
been failing for sometime. Two years ago he gave up active work on 
his "Crowfoot" ranch at Sweet and moved to Emmett to spend the sunset of his 
life. Until a few weeks ago he was daily seen on the streets and was in his 
customary good spirit - a noteworthy characteristic of the man. Gallstones 
presented themselves and he suffered severely. An operation to remove them 
proved too great a shock for one of his age.

Mr. Sweet came to Idaho in 1878, filed on a homestead on Squaw Creek and 
founded the little town which bears his name. He was its first post master, 
and for a number of years was engaged in the general merchandise business 
there. As a farmer and stock raiser, and as a merchant, he was successful. He 
was prominent in all movements for the upbuilding of his section and was a 
factor in the political life of his county and state. He was possessed with a 
keen sense of humor and was always a favorite in any gathering with his mirth-
provoking stories and amusing anecdotes of men and events of the early days.

Mr. Sweet was twice married. His first wife died a number of years ago. One 
son, Harry, a merchant of Montour, was born to them and survives. He was in 
Arizona at the time of this father's death and difficulty was had in locating 
him. He will reach here Saturday and the funeral will be held at Sweet Sunday 
afternoon at 2:30. Two brothers also survives, as does his widow.
