ALLEN James B. Allen was born in Nashville, Tennessee, April 30, 1846 and passed away after a brief illness on June 2, 1930 at the ripe age of 84 years, one month and two days. When he was a small boy he was removed with his parents to Arkansas. He served as a soldier during the civil war and afterward in an Indian uprising. Mr. Allen married Isabell Tittle, August 23, 1865 at Bentonville, Arkansas and later removed with his family to the west and located at Soldier Idaho in 1883. Eight years later he came to Grangeville where he has resided since. Mr. Allen became a Christian in early youth, uniting with the Baptist Church. He was a very devout man and has preached often and exercised a good influence in his community. He leaves to mourn their loss, his devoted widow; three daughters, Mrs. Louis Webber, Mrs. Albert Webber, and Mrs. Christ Luehrs, all of Grangeville, and one son, George Allen of Yakima, Washington; a large number of grand and great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Three daughters and two sons preceded him to the Better land. We have no tears He will not dry, We have no wounds He will not heal, No sorrows pierce our human hearts that He, our Savior does not feel. The services were conducted from the late residence in east Grangeville in charge of Rev. S.H. Fry, the new local Baptist pastor, assisted by Rev. Fred Mathis of Spokane, Washington, Tuesday, June 3. The body was laid to rest by the side of his children at Fairview Cemetery.
