"Doc" Brown, 80 Fred Clark Brown, known to most as "Doc," died at the home of his son in Nampa on Sept. 19, 2005. He was born Nov. 15, 1924, in Kamiah to John Hastings Brown and Buelah Violet (Price) Brown. He attended Kamiah schools, playing football, basketball, was an excellent swimmer and diver and played the piano. He graduated in 1942 as valedictorian of his class. He attended the University of Idaho for one year after graduation from high school, then joined the U.S. Army to serve his country. He served in the European Theatre of Operation during World War II as a tank driver with the 13th Armored Division, known as the "Black Cat 13" commanded by General George Patton, during which time, he received two Purple Hearts for injuries received in battle, and carried shrapnel as an unwanted souvenir until his death. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 1, 1946.
