FUNERAL SERVICES
FOR L.E. COLLINS
  Under the auspices of Grangeville Veteran post, American Legion, funeral 
services for Lonnie Earl Collins were held Sunday afternoon at 2 from the 
Maugg parlors.
  The body of Mr. Collins arrived in Grangeville Friday night from Portland.  
W.N. Knox, minister, officiated at the services.  Burial was in Prairie View 
Cemetery.
  Mr. Collins was born at Howard, Kansas, March 10, 1884.  When a boy, he 
removed with his parents to Missouri and then to Chadron Nebraska.  In 1900 
the family came to Grangeville and has since resided in this vicinity.
  In July 1918, Mr. Collins enlisted in the U.S. army at Spokane, and assigned 
to duty at Camp Holibird, near Baltimore, Maryland.  He was honorably 
discharged from the army at Camp Lewis, Wn., March 4, 1919.
  Surviving him are his aged father, Solomon C. Collins in Grangeville; two 
sisters, Mrs. Laura Whitney, Wawawai, Wn. and Mr. Lulu Snapp, Seattle; three 
brothers, Orville Collins, Woodland, Cal.,; Eugene Collins, Ten Sleep, Wyo. 
And William Collins, Tacoma, Wn.

Grangeville Man Takes Own Life In Lavatory of Metropolitan Club, Portland

  Firing two bullets through his heart, Lonnie Collins, 38, for many years a 
resident of Grangeville, killed himself in the lavatory of the Metropolitan 
club, 103 South 6th Street, Portland.  Jack Stovall, proprietor of the club, 
hearing the shots, rushed into the lavatory where he found Collins sprawled on 
the floor.
  The police emergency hospital was called but Collins died within five 
minutes.
  He was identified by a notebook found in his pocket; bearing his name and a 
note reading:
  
Notify Mrs. Clara V. Schenck, G???o Apartments, Linnton, in case of accident.

  Mrs. Schenck is Clara Violet Schenck, who formerly resided in Grangeville.  
She obtained a divorce in district court last fall from Walter F. Schenck, on 
grounds of non support.
  Collins left here for McCall and later went to Portland.
  His father, S.C. Collins lives in Grangeville.
  The body will be brought to Grangeville for burial.  Funeral will be held 
Sunday afternoon at the Maugg parlors.
