COLLINS DIES AT AGE OF 86 SOLOMON CEALSBURY COLLINS, 86, one of the oldest residents of Grangeville died last Friday morning at 5:30 in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Laura Whitney, at Wawawai, Wn. Mr. Collins had gone to Wawawai three weeks prior to his death. The body, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Whitney, arrived in Grangeville Saturday night and was taken to the Hancock parlors where funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3:00, W.N. Knox, officiating. Burial was in Prairie View Cemetery. Mr. Collins was born in Ozark county, Missouri, February 18, 1838. When about 21 years old, he left Missouri for Texas, where he spent five years, then going to Kansas where, on July 9, 1872, he was married to Miss Mary E. Goss. To them were born seven children, five of whom survive. Leaving Kansas in 1884, Mr. Collins and family removed to Missouri, staying there ten years, and then going to Nebraska. During these many years he followed farming and railroad work, during the ten years on the frontiers of Kansas and Texas participated in Indian wars as a scout. Mr. Collins and family came to Grangeville from Nebraska, arriving here July 19, 1900. This place has since been his home. In February, following their location in this community, his son, Forest, a veteran of the Spanish-American War, died, and then days later, Mr. Collins wife passed away. One son, Lonnie, died in December 1922. Mr. Collins is survived by five children; Mrs. Laura Whitney, Wawawai, Wn.; Eugene Collins, Ten Sleep, Wyo.; Orville Collins, Woodland, Cal.; Mrs. Lulu Williams, Seattle, Wn. and William Collins, Tacoma, Wn. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren.
